Restaurant and retail groups operating in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan face two very different e-invoicing regimes. If you are looking for a Lightspeed POS alternative or weighing Foodics against other options, this guide explains each product fairly and shows how CT Products helps with ZATCA, FBR and PRA compliance and ERP.
What are Lightspeed and Foodics?
Lightspeed is a point-of-sale platform for retail and restaurants. It is used by stores and hospitality businesses in many countries and is known for features designed around those two industries.
Foodics is a Saudi-based restaurant POS. Because it was built in the region, it focuses on the needs of restaurants and cafes in Saudi Arabia and nearby markets.
Both are established products. Your choice usually depends on your country, your industry and how your POS needs to connect with tax authorities and back-office accounts.
E-invoicing rules POS users must plan for
Saudi Arabia: ZATCA Phase 2
ZATCA e-invoicing Phase 2 requires integration with the Fatoora platform and is being rolled out in waves. The Wave 24 deadline was 30 June 2026. Under Wave 25, whose criteria were published on 24 July 2026, taxpayers whose VAT-subject revenue exceeded SAR 187,500 in any of 2022, 2023, 2024 or 2025 must integrate by 1 February 2027. ZATCA notifies each targeted taxpayer, so watch for that notice.
Pakistan: FBR, PRA and SRB
In Pakistan, FBR's POS integration has focused on Tier-1 retailers. For restaurants in Punjab, according to news reports in August 2026, PRA banned handwritten receipts and requires receipts through its Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS) with a PRA QR code; check the PRA notification for details. Sindh's SRB runs its own POS framework, and FBR integration does not automatically satisfy SRB.
UAE: coming next
The UAE's e-invoicing programme uses the Peppol network through accredited service providers, with a voluntary pilot from 1 July 2026 and go-live dates from 1 January 2027 for larger businesses. B2C is exempt until further notice. Groups with outlets in several GCC countries should plan for different rules in each one rather than assuming one setup will cover all.
Questions to ask your POS provider
- Which e-invoicing regimes does the POS support today, and which are planned?
- Who registers your devices or solutions with the tax authority and manages credentials?
- How are credit notes, refunds and voided orders reported?
- How does sales data reach your accounting system and central kitchen or warehouse?
- What support is available during peak hours such as Ramadan evenings or weekends?

When Lightspeed or Foodics may be the better choice
- Lightspeed may be the better choice for a retail or hospitality business in a market where it is well supported and its industry features match your workflow.
- Foodics may be the better choice for a Saudi restaurant that wants a regional POS built around local restaurant operations and is happy with its compliance features after checking them.
- Either may fit if your back office already runs on another accounting system that integrates smoothly with them.
